Plot Summary
Zenkichi has been nicknamed the “Club Crasher”. He has been going to clubs to build up his reputation.
Kanoya was once a candidate for the student council president position but lost without fail against Medaka. Kanoya won’t submit a request in the submission box. Zenkichi meets Kanoya on the school rooftop and is told to come to a meeting to discuss how to beat Medaka.
Zenkichi arrives at the meeting and rejects Kanoya’s offer and defeats him then tells the onlookers to spread the rumors the student council is not to be trifled with.
In the next part, the student council gets a request from the judo club. The captain of the judo club needs help choosing the next successor to the club. Medaka and Zenkichi meet the current captain of the judo club, Nekomi Nabeshima and a second-year, Kouki Akune. Zenkichi and Akune reawaken a rivalry the two have had with each other since their middle school days.
Medaka tells all of the judo team members to come and try defeating her. One of the judo members, Jounan, attempts this and fails. Nabeshima reveals her real plan which was to have Zenkichi and Akune fight each other over Medaka. Should Zenkichi lose, Akune would take his place and Zenkichi would become the new captain of the judo team in Nabeshima’s place.
My Opinion
This was a particularly fun episode, especially the latter half. Perhaps I am too biased but when I heard Kanoya yell, I instantly recognized his voice as belonging to Nobuyuki Hiyama, famous for his role as Viral in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Madarame Ikkaku in Bleach, Siegfried Schtauffen in the Soulcalibur fighting game series, and most notably from Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link. However, Kanoya was not a particular favorite of mine and failed at this.
You don’t scare me. |
Akune’s entrance into the episode baffled me up until he finally appeared. This could be partially due to not having read Medaka Box in such a long time or that I have suspicions on his upbringing.
He has inherited the sparkles! |
His connection to Zenkichi and Medaka is amusing for the simple reasons he knows them. Plus I will admit, his and Zenkichi’s rivalry is fun to watch. I am not a fan of love triangles though so I do hope this does not get too much attention from the animators.
Nabeshima is someone I would not trust. With the way she has set up Zenkichi and Akune to fight each other, that in itself is something to respect her for.
